You can usually determine whether you're ready to change the filter based upon its appearance. If your pre-filter appears dirty, you can replace the carbon pre-filters, this will help extend the life of your HEPA filter. If your HEPA filter appears dirty, it is recommended to change the combination filter.

How do I reset the filter indicator light after replacing the filter?
